The technical group of drying plays the important role as an information source of the matters of drying. Main activities of the group are to hold lecture courses concerning medicine-related drying and to arrange plant tours. Through these activities, group members are able to collects valuable information about the current state and the future trend on the domestic and foreign drying technology concerning environmental problems and energy saving, etc. Furthermore, the group cooperates with APPIE Education Division for the early training course to bring up young engineers.
Current level of technology, trend and activities in future
The present drying technology is at the level being able to solve the following problems: (1) retention of quality and function in drying process; (2) environmental measures (treatment of exhaust gas, volume reduction of wastes, and improvement of device washing characteristics); (3) measures for energy-saving (heat pump dryer, etc.); (4) multipurpose and combined function drying (process simplification by combining unit operations such as combination of filtration and drying, combination of crystallization and drying, and combination of drying and granulation).
The following approaches will be needed in the future: (1) deepening of energy-saving and environment measures (reduction of CO2 exhaust, action for various standards and cross-contamination, germfree and no pollution, and closed system); (2) optimization of drying system based on process integration; (3) fine control of product structure during the drying process.
